Course
Description:
Korean is
the official language of about 80 million people in two countries, the Republic
of Korea in the southern and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the
northern half of the Korean Peninsula. A large portion of this course will be
devoted to the analytical study of Korean, namely its phonetics and phonology
(taught by Kabak), and its morphology and syntax (by Nowossjelow). We will also
study the typological significance of Korean (Plank).
Prerequisites:
“Einführung
in die Sprachwissenschaft” and at least one of the core linguistics courses
(e.g., Phonologie I, Syntax I, Morphologie I, etc.).
