LIN 315 – Semantics III

This seminar provides an extensive and in-depth introduction to Formal Semantics for MA and LA students. Mathematical tools will be introduced and applied to the compositional analysis of simplex and complex sentences, covering constructions such as modification, quantification, quantifier properties, negative polarity licensing, constraints on quantifier scope, binding and ellipsis. Connections to syntactic, pragmatic and phonological issues will be discussed.
