Our workshop initiated the building of new bridges that close the gap between the so-called ‘social turn’ in educational linguistics and modern formal approaches to natural language, to eventually explore new teaching methodologies. We also discussed current accounts in the language sciences that systematically revise and manipulate existing teaching methods in the second language classroom and that explore how different manipulations facilitate the learning of a second language. The overall goal of this workshop has been to see a subsequent integration of issues and insights from modern linguistics into language-teaching practice.
